Gaza death toll nears 44,600 with 48 more Palestinians killed in airstrikes

The death toll in Gaza has climbed to nearly 44,600, as Israeli airstrikes killed 48 more Palestinians in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza. The ministry reported that the ongoing assault has left approximately 105,739 people injured.

In a statement, the ministry disclosed that the recent fatalities occurred during five targeted attacks on families, adding that many remain trapped under rubble or stranded on roads, with rescue efforts hindered by continued bombardment.

The conflict, now in its second year, follows a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which escalated Israeli military operations in Gaza. Despite a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, the Israeli army has maintained its offensive, which international groups and leaders have increasingly recognized as genocide.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the territory.
