Government reduces electricity tariff, implements winter relief package

The federal government has announced a reduction in electricity prices, bringing much-needed relief to consumers. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification on Monday, confirming a decrease of Rs1.14 per unit under the fuel price adjustment for October. Power distribution companies, including the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), have been instructed to reflect this reduction in consumers’ December bills, according to official documents.

IESCO Launches Winter Facilitation Package

In addition to reduction in electricity tariff reduction, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has begun implementing the Prime Minister’s Winter Facilitation Package to provide further relief to electricity users in December 2024.

IESCO Chief Executive Muhammad Naeem Jan outlined the benefits of the initiative, which targets residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

  • Residential Consumers: Reduction of Rs11.42 to Rs26 per unit on additional electricity usage.
  • Commercial Consumers: Relief ranging from Rs13.46 to Rs22.71 per unit.
  • Industrial Consumers: Reductions between Rs5.72 and Rs15.05 per unit.

The package aims to lower electricity costs, particularly for industries, to help reduce production expenses, boost output, and contribute to economic growth. Naeem Jan encouraged IESCO customers to maximize the benefits of these reductions, emphasizing their potential to alleviate financial burdens during the winter months.

Both initiatives are part of the government’s strategy to support consumers and stimulate economic activity during the colder months. The measures are expected to ease financial strain on households and businesses while promoting industrial productivity and overall economic stability.
