Government to provide 39,000 electric bikes and 19,000 rickshaws on subsidized loans

As part of its push to promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the federal government has announced plans to distribute 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws on subsidized loans. This initiative aims to encourage the use of eco-friendly transportation and reduce reliance on traditional fuel-based vehicles.

The decision was unveiled during the fourth meeting on the Electric Vehicles Policy, chaired by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain. Highlighting the importance of this step, the minister stated that the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of promoting sustainable mobility and transforming Islamabad into a model city for electric vehicle usage.

The subsidized loans are part of a broader effort to make EVs more accessible to the public. These affordable options will benefit individuals and small businesses, fostering an inclusive transition to cleaner energy alternatives. Additionally, 120 top-performing students from the Federal Board will be rewarded with free electric bikes to promote awareness and sustainability among the youth.

During the meeting, Minister Hussain also emphasized the importance of building a robust EV infrastructure. Plans include the installation of EV charging stations at all petrol pumps in Islamabad and 40 stations along motorways and national highways. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been directed to expedite the installation process, ensuring accessibility for EV users.

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the entire process of implementing the EV Policy will be digitalized. An official announcement of the finalized policy is expected soon, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to promote clean energy and modernize transportation.
