Imran’s release unlikely, hoping the case avoids the death penalty for Faiz: Faisal Vawda

Senator Faisal Vawda has cast doubt on the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, stating that the opportunity for his freedom has passed. Speaking to a private TV channel, Vawda expressed concerns about the ongoing legal proceedings involving former ISI chief Lt. Gen. (retd) Faiz Hameed, hoping the case does not escalate to the point of a death penalty.
Vawda confirmed that Faiz Hameed has been formally charged and that punishments are under consideration. He revealed that Hameed had provided critical evidence and information during the investigations, particularly concerning an assassination attempt on the PTI leader.

The senator recounted that Imran Khan had been warned about an imminent attack prior to the attempt on his life. He claimed that laptops, phones, and facilitators associated with Hameed have yielded key evidence that could soon expose those who benefitted from the attack.
Vawda also suggested that another high-profile figure, reportedly close to Khan, was involved in the assassination attempt, with their identity expected to be disclosed soon.
The senator hinted at another impending legal case that could have serious repercussions for the PTI leader, emphasizing the need for political negotiations to resolve the mounting challenges. He alleged that the mandate of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the JUI-F chief, was “stolen” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a grievance that remains unaddressed.
On the broader political front, Vawda remarked on the difficulty of holding former army chief General Qamar Bajwa accountable, citing alliances with influential figures that complicate the situation. He stressed that unity between the Prime Minister and the ISI chief could limit even the Army Chief’s ability to intervene.
Highlighting Hameed’s contributions to PTI, Vawda noted the significant role the former ISI chief played in the party’s operations. He claimed that Imran Khan had made considerable efforts to support Hameed, even coordinating calls for him on November 24.
