Islamabad court issues arrest warrant for KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur in liquor and illegal arms case

A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has ordered the arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case involving the possession of liquor and illegal arms. The arrest warrant was issued due to Gandapur’s repeated absence from court hearings related to the charges.

The court directed the SSP Operations to apprehend Gandapur and present him before the court. The case revolves around allegations that the KP chief minister violated Section 144 and was found in possession of unlicensed weapons and liquor.

During a previous hearing, the court had submitted a questionnaire to Zahoor Hassan, Gandapur’s legal counsel, seeking clarification on several key points. The questions focused on whether Gandapur had attended a public gathering on October 30, 2016, despite a magistrate’s restriction order under Section 144. The court also sought to confirm whether Gandapur fled the scene in a black vehicle, which was later confiscated by police.

The court further questioned whether a bottle of liquor, seized from the vehicle, was verified by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency’s report. Additionally, the court inquired if a bulletproof jacket and an unlicensed weapon were recovered from the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The charges against Gandapur date back to 2016 when the Islamabad administration imposed Section 144, prohibiting public gatherings. According to the prosecution, Gandapur violated the order by attending a political event in the federal capital. After police intervened, he allegedly escaped from the scene in his vehicle, which was later intercepted and searched.

Upon inspection, police reportedly found a bottle of liquor, a bulletproof jacket, and an unlicensed firearm in the vehicle. The Punjab Forensic Science Agency confirmed that the seized bottle contained liquor, which further strengthened the prosecution’s case.
