Lahore to get first ‘smog tower’ to combat air pollution

Lahore, grappling with a worsening air pollution crisis, is set to receive its first smog clean tower, marking a significant step in the fight against environmental degradation. Designed by the Environmental Protection Department, the tower is being installed in the Mahmood Booti area, one of the city’s most polluted zones.

The installation and calibration of the tower are currently underway, with full operational status expected by December 21. Equipped with advanced air filtration technology, the tower is capable of removing toxic particles from the air, offering a potential breakthrough in improving the city’s air quality.

Senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb described the project as a groundbreaking initiative, highlighting the importance of leveraging modern technology to address urgent environmental concerns like smog. She emphasized that the tower would not only benefit Lahore but also serve as a model for similar projects across the country.

The introduction of this smog clean tower reinforces the government’s commitment to tackling environmental challenges and protecting public health. As Lahore continues to face critical levels of air pollution, the tower represents a promising solution for cleaner air and a healthier future.
