  • Application must be submitted within 90 days, failure to comply may result in fines.
  • Failure to comply may result in fines ranging from PKR 50 to PKR 50,000.
  • The National Identity Card is essential for accessing vital services and benefits.

NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) has made it mandatory for individuals turning 18 years old to obtain a National Identity Card. According to NADRA regulations under Section 9(1) of the NADRA Ordinance 2000, every citizen turning 18 must submit an application within 90 days to obtain their identity card. Failure to submit the application within the prescribed time frame may result in a fine under Section 30(e).

Currently, the penalty for late submission can range between PKR 50 to PKR 50,000. NADRA has urged citizens to fulfill this responsibility promptly and apply for their identity card as soon as they turn 18 years old. For further facilitation, the application process can be initiated online or by visiting a NADRA registration center.

The National Identity Card is a crucial document that establishes the identity of a Pakistani citizen, providing access to essential services such as voting, opening a bank account, and applying for a passport. The NIC also plays a vital role in ensuring the rights and privileges of citizens, including access to government schemes and welfare programs. It serves as a primary proof of identity in both public and private sectors.

NADRA, as Pakistan’s central authority for citizen registration, has been instrumental in modernizing the country’s identification systems. By maintaining a secure and digitized database, NADRA ensures the integrity and accuracy of citizen records, which is vital for national security and governance. The authority has also introduced efficient online and in-person services to make the registration process more accessible and user-friendly for the public.
