Non-bailable arrest warrant issued for Rana Sanaullah over 2020 case

A judicial magistrate in Gujranwala has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Adviser to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, in connection to a 2020 case. The warrant, issued by Judicial Magistrate Sidra Gill Nawaz, comes after Sanaullah’s repeated absences from court proceedings.

The case stems from an incident during a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally held on October 16, 2020, in Gujranwala. Sanaullah is accused of attempting to run over police personnel and removing containers used as barricades. The charges against him fall under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including Sections 149, 147, 186, 353, and 324.

While police had previously submitted a report under Section 173 of the Criminal Procedure Code declaring Sanaullah innocent, the court rejected the report and summoned him for further proceedings. His absence led to the issuance of the arrest warrant, with the court ordering authorities to present him by December 12.

It is worth noting that other individuals named in the case, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister Khurram Dastgir, Salman Khalid Butt, and Imran Khalid Butt, have already been acquitted. Delays in the submission of the challan against Sanaullah had previously slowed the case’s progress.
