OGDCL discovers ‘Oil and Gas’ reserves in Lakki Marwat

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant discovery of oil and gas reserves in the Bettani-2 exploration well located in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This marks the first hydrocarbon discovery in the Samanasik Formation of the Wali Block.

According to an OGDCL spokesperson, the initial production from the Bettani-2 well is estimated to yield 2.14 million standard cubic feet of gas and 74 barrels of oil per day. This discovery is being hailed as a major milestone in the company’s exploration efforts, highlighting the untapped potential of the region.

The discovery in the Samanasik Formation represents a crucial step toward enhancing Pakistan’s energy production. OGDCL plans to drill additional wells in the Wali Block to explore further reserves, with the aim of strengthening the country’s domestic energy resources and reducing reliance on imports.

This announcement follows OGDCL’s earlier success in March 2024, when the company discovered oil and gas reserves in the Kohat Block of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Drilling at the Tog-2 well in Kohat district reached a depth of 2,600 meters, further contributing to Pakistan’s energy development.
