OGDCL discovers significant natural gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a major discovery of natural gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s energy sector. This discovery, expected to yield up to 2.14 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, represents a substantial boost to the country’s domestic energy supply.

The new reserves are anticipated to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on costly energy imports, providing relief to the national grid and addressing the country’s ongoing energy challenges. This discovery aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic energy production and achieve self-sufficiency.

OGDCL continues to lead exploration initiatives with a focus on expanding resource deposits across the region. Officials confirmed that further exploration is underway, with promising indications of additional reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These efforts demonstrate the company’s commitment to bolstering Pakistan’s energy reserves and economic stability.

This announcement comes just two weeks after OGDCL revealed another significant discovery of oil and gas reserves at the Bettani-2 exploration well in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This marked the first hydrocarbon discovery in the Samanasik Formation of the Wali Block. Initial production from Bettani-2 is estimated at 2.14 million standard cubic feet of gas and 74 barrels of oil per day.

The Bettani-2 discovery is hailed as a milestone in OGDCL’s exploration efforts, highlighting the untapped potential of the region. OGDCL has expressed plans to drill additional wells in the Wali Block to explore further reserves, reinforcing the company’s commitment to reducing the country’s reliance on imported energy.
