Pakistan ranked 198th globally for internet speed in latest update
Pakistan has been ranked 198th in the world for internet speed, as per the World Population Review, placing it below countries like Palestine, Bhutan, and Iraq. The report highlights significant challenges in the country’s mobile and broadband internet performance.
The average mobile internet download speed in Pakistan is reported at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband speeds stand at 15.52 Mbps. In stark contrast, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tops the global rankings in both categories, with Singapore and Qatar securing second spots for mobile and broadband internet, respectively. Other nations like Hong Kong and Chile also outshine with impressive mobile internet speeds, holding third and fourth positions globally.

Frequent internet outages and slowdowns have compounded the frustrations of users across Pakistan, disrupting both Wi-Fi and mobile data services. These issues have made it difficult to browse or share media files like images and videos on popular platforms such as WhatsApp.
Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), remains optimistic, stating that technological advancements could address these speed issues within three months. However, he also warned of potential disruptions caused by the implementation of a firewall, which could impact connectivity further. Reports of intermittent issues, including delays in sending images via WhatsApp, have raised concerns about potential monitoring activities.
The need for improved infrastructure and policy focus is evident as Pakistan strives to enhance its digital connectivity in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
