PCB seeks written assurances from ICC on ‘Hybrid Model’ for future tournaments

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly demanded written assurances from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the hybrid model for future international tournaments. This move comes as Pakistan prepares to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

Under the hybrid model agreed upon for the Champions Trophy, India’s matches will be played in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan. If India progresses to the semi-finals or final, those matches will also be held in Dubai. The arrangement stems from India’s government policy, which prohibits the Indian team from traveling to Pakistan. Despite these circumstances, the PCB has agreed to this compromise for the 2025 event.

Sources suggest that the PCB’s demand for a written guarantee reflects its concern over the feasibility of such a model for future tournaments. The board is seeking confirmation from the ICC before finalizing agreements to ensure clarity and avoid complications in subsequent events.

The ICC is expected to make a final decision on Wednesday regarding the hosting and match arrangements. The Emirates Cricket Board, which will host India’s matches, is closely observing the situation and has already confirmed its readiness to facilitate the games.
