PTI warns of ‘civil disobedience’ if demands are ignored during the ongoing negotiations

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has warned that it may reinstate its previously deferred civil disobedience call if the government fails to address its demands during the ongoing negotiations. The party stressed its commitment to resolving critical issues but criticized the government’s perceived lack of seriousness.

PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram revealed that party founder Imran Khan has instructed leaders to stand firm on two primary demands: the release of all political prisoners, including Khan himself, and the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 riots and the November 26 incident. Speaking to a private TV channel on Wednesday, Akram reiterated that PTI will not compromise on these core issues.

Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister on Information, expressed doubts about the government’s sincerity in the talks. He remarked, “An activity is being carried out in the name of negotiations, but so far, we see no meaningful relief for PTI.”

Saif warned that if the talks remain superficial, political tensions will continue to escalate. He criticized the government’s past approach, stating, “If they are held in a non-serious way, as their behavior has been in the past, then the tensions would persist.”

Saif also condemned the federal government for politicizing the Kurram tribal clashes, which have claimed over 200 lives since July. He lamented the lack of federal support in addressing the violence, stating, “It is indeed our KP government’s domain, but had the federal government also contributed, the matter could have been resolved more effectively.
