PTI’s Salman Akram Raja withdraws resignation following party directive
Salman Akram Raja, Secretary-General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has withdrawn his resignation after the party refused to accept it and directed him to continue in his role. PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed the decision, stating that Raja participated in a recent political committee meeting.
Raja initially resigned following criticism from party members for failing to join a protest convoy traveling from Lahore to Islamabad. The protest, part of PTI’s high-profile “do-or-die” demonstration on November 27, ended abruptly after a government crackdown led to the arrest of nearly 1,000 protestors.

In a video statement issued after the retreat, Raja explained that strict government security measures, including roadblocks and bridge closures, prevented him from reaching Islamabad. He emphasized his commitment to honesty, saying, “I will always be truthful about what I can and cannot do.”
Addressing criticism, Raja dismissed the notion of symbolic gestures like appearing at D-Chowk for photo opportunities, stating, “It is not appropriate for me to act in such a manner.”
The wave of resignations following the protest also included Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council, who stepped down from a key position within PTI.
