The bill, presented by Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, introduces substantial pay hikes for Members of the Punjab Assembly (MPAs), ministers, and other key officeholders.

Under the revised structure, the salary of MPAs has been raised from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000. Provincial ministers will now receive Rs960,000, a sharp increase from their previous Rs180,000. Similarly, the speaker of the Punjab Assembly will see a salary rise from Rs125,000 to Rs950,000, while the deputy speaker’s pay will increase from Rs120,000 to Rs775,000.

The parliamentary secretaries’ salaries have also been revised upward, climbing from Rs83,000 to Rs451,000, whereas special assistants and advisers will now earn Rs665,000, up from Rs100,000.

The bill will officially come into effect after receiving approval from the Punjab governor. It marks the first significant salary revision since 2019 when the members’ pay was last adjusted.
