Punjab cabinet approves Rs. 3.44 billion expansion for Model Bazaars in 13 districts
The Punjab provincial cabinet has approved an expanded budget of Rs. 3.44 billion to establish Model Bazaars in 13 additional districts, surpassing the initially proposed allocation of Rs. 2.5 billion. This initiative aims to address public demand, support local businesses, and provide relief from the escalating cost of living.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the existing Model Bazaars for their success in offering essential goods at prices lower than official government rates. These markets have not only helped millions manage their household expenses but have also created numerous employment opportunities.

The expansion plan will enable small businesses to rent subsidized spaces starting at Rs. 10,000 per month, encouraging entrepreneurship and contributing to economic growth. Currently, 36 Model Bazaars operate in 24 districts, including 10 in Lahore, providing consumers with a clean and organized shopping environment while offering goods at reduced prices.
The new Model Bazaars will be established in the districts of Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Narowal, Jhelum, Chiniot, Sharaqpur, Wazirabad, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Bhalwal, Pattoki, Jaranwala, and Chunian. This expansion is expected to further alleviate economic pressures on the public and bolster local commerce.
