‘Ready to spend life in jail’, says Imran Khan after 500 days of imprisonment

Founder and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, declared on Monday that he is prepared to spend his life in jail but will never bow down before the “Yazeed of the time.” Speaking to party workers and lawyers at Adiala Jail Court, where he marked 500 days of imprisonment, Khan urged his supporters to remain patient and resolute.

Addressing his audience, Imran emphasized that the nation should stay ready as he plans to announce the next course of action soon. “Allah is with those who are patient. We are all sacrificing for the true freedom of this country. You must remain strong and stand with me in the fight against oppression,” he urged.

Referring to the D-Chowk incident, Khan accused authorities of unleashing violence on peaceful and unarmed citizens. Comparing the events to the brutality of “modern-day General Dyer,” he said, “The nation was treated as slaves, and firing was opened without provocation. We will never forget this incident and will ensure justice for the workers and martyrs.”

The PTI founder further claimed that 12 martyrs have been identified so far who were killed before sunset on November 26, adding that more individuals were shot at night when electricity in the area was deliberately turned off. He questioned, “Where have they disappeared? Dozens of people are still missing. It is the government’s responsibility to locate them and release the details to the public.”

Imran Khan also accused hospitals of allegedly hiding records and refusing to hand over the bodies of victims to their families. He stressed that thousands of witnesses, including members of the media, saw the violence firsthand.

Demanding accountability, Khan called for the immediate formation of an independent judicial commission to investigate both the May 9 events and the November 26 Islamabad massacre. He urged the commission, which he believes should include senior Supreme Court judges, to ensure a transparent inquiry to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.

As Khan remains steadfast behind bars, the government’s position on negotiations with PTI remains firm. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif dismissed the possibility of immediate talks with the party, stressing that any dialogue is contingent on a “clear message” from Imran Khan himself. Asif criticized the current PTI leadership as powerless and divided, stating that meaningful discussions cannot occur unless Khan directly signals his intent to negotiate.
